The 12 students of the University of Maribor (four mixed teams made of two architects and one engineer) presented their final designs to the jury (Prof. Gangoly, Prof Schickhofer, TU Graz, Prof. Premrov and Prof. Zegarac Leskovar, University of Maribor). Local enterprises, architects and representatives of the local authorities were also invited.
The task was to work out a concept for the renovation and expansion of a school in Graz in modular timber construction and according to low-energy standards.
Experts were positively surprised and excited about the excellent results and performances the participating students worked out in such a short time. They also very much liked the fact that the workshop was accepted so well by the participants and that the Master class provided the possibility to teach them multifaceted knowledge on contemporary building methods with timber.
The engineering student of the winning team from Maribor is invited to one month intership at TU Graz, Institute of Timber Engineering and Wood Technology, starting in September 2016. The architecture students of the winning team are invited to do an internship at Architekturbüro Gangoly & Kristiner for one month in summer 2016.
